As the 14th of February draws closer there is a definite scramble to book romantic getaways. Valentines day couldn’t come at a more awkward time ( after the festive season deflates our bank accounts ) so if you are shopping for a budget break I have you covered.
These places are near Cape Town, they are romantic and in beautiful areas and will give you some major brownie points, just remember to pack the bubbly!
Off the grid and utterly romantic, Platbos has been described as a unique South African forest jewel. Greenery will surround you and the birds will wake you up each morning. It almost feels like living in a Disney movie! Having stayed there for two nights I can attest that it is definitely the digital detox and all out romantic setting that you need in your life.
There are two great options for couples. The bushbuck suite and the honeybee suite that is a bit smaller but does have its own wood fired jacuzzi!
Looking for the ultimate blue water destination on a budget? Kraalbaai is the place to go to. Only an hour and a bit from Cape Town you will find South Africa’s very own Greece. White sand, flat turquoise water and yachts chilling in the distance. Sounds a lot like paradise to me.
The Kraalbaai luxury houseboats have recently had a revamp and are looking great. You can spend your days sunning it up on your private deck, enjoying some stand up paddle boarding or heading to the beach.
Tucked away on a farm in Botrivier, Copia has three awesome cabins made from converted shipping containers. These cabins are both beautiful inside and out, have gorgeous views, woodfired jacuzzis and are totally off the grid. Prepare for loads of romantic sundowners and no phone reception while you soak up the relaxed vibe.
Farm 215 is a fynbos retreat and nature reserve with wide open spaces and plenty of fresh air. Set between Stanford and Cape Agulhas it is secluded and intimate with only three cottages, and three rooms in the main house. If you are not in the mood to relax with a book you can explore the area. Go whale watching, explore the trails on a mountain bike or horse or get to know the flora and fauna in the area.
Platbos Log Cabins
Secluded log cabins overlooking a beautiful dam with a mountain backdrop? Yes please! Platbos log cabins are situated on the slopes of the Slanghoek mountains in the secret valley. The area is tranquil and beautiful but there is also a whole lot going on. Hiking to a waterfall, birding and even fly fishing if you are up for it!
Enjo Nature Farm
Hidden in the beautiful Biedouw valley Enjo Nature Farm is the perfect secret spot. The cottages are far apart and if you stay in the Lonely planet you probably wont even see another person. Outside baths, hot springs and natural spring fed dams are a few of the things you can look forward to when visiting. The atmosphere is relaxed with an honesty shop at the main house and dogs, horses and cats casually making their way around the farm.
