Unique Experiences in Cape Town
There are plenty of things to experience in Cape Town and sometimes it can be a little bit overwhelming. Hiking lions head, and going to the beautiful beaches should always be on your list but there is so much more to do!
If you have already done all the touristy things here are a few more unusual things that you can do in the Mother City.
#1 Go on a helicopter flip
You can’t visit Cape Town without seeing out beautiful city from above. The views are more than breathtaking and its something epic to tick off your bucket list. Check out NAC Helicopters for more details.
#2 Paraglide off Signal Hill
If you want to do something a bit on the adventurous side then I would suggest paragliding off Signal hill or Lions Head if the wind is right. There is nothing better than gliding over the beautiful mountains and seeing the Atlantic ocean glittering like diamonds beneath you.
#3 Take the train to Kalk Bay
If you want to experience Cape Town like a local then take the train to Kalk Bay and go have a fish and chips lunch. There are loads of quirky places to explore in Kalk bay but remember to get off at the Muizenburg and Simons Town stops as well!
#4 Go kayaking in Table Bay
If you want to be as close to the water as possible without being in it go for an early morning Kayaking session with Kaskazi adventures. If you are lucky you will spot dolphins, sunfish and sometimes even whales. Not only will you be getting some exercise but also a once in a lifetime experience!
#5 Hop on the wine tram in Franschhoek
If driving around tasting wine in a beautiful area sounds awesome to you then you need to go on the Franschhoek wine tram. You can choose from a few different routes to go do wine tastings in the area and then just hop on and off where you want. It’s a great option if you don’t know the area very well and it means you can have as many tastings as you want because you are not driving!
#6 Rent a AC Cobra and go for a sunset drive
Can you imagine yourself driving off into the sunset in a beautiful car, on one of the most beautiful roads in the world? Rent a AC Cobra for a day and make all your car dreams come true. I suggest taking it for a spin on Chapmans peak drive for epic photo opportunities and wind in your hair moments.
#7 Snorkel with seals in Hout Bay
Cape Town has a very rich coastal marine life and the Cape Fur seals are abundant in the Summer months. Swimming with these playful seals is an amazing experience. They are inquisitive and not dangerous so you can relax and enjoy the beauty of life under the Atlantic ocean.
#8 Do a Segway tour at Spier Wine Farm
If you are looking for a fun day out then you cant go wrong with visiting Spier wine farm. They have great food, amazing wine and some awesome things to do. One of my favorites is the “4×4” segway tour where they take you through their property on trails and explain to you how the farm works and what they are all about. Its so much fun riding through the vineyards on the bumpy roads!
#9 Hike to a Waterfall ( Crystal pools and Twee Toll are popular ones )
These are a little bit of a drive to get to but so worth it. Crystal pools is a very popular hike near Gordons bay and Tweede toll is in Bains Kloof. Take your swimming gear and a picnic and spend the day, the hikes aren’t strenuous but you will want to relax at the pools for a couple of hours. For both the hikes you need to get a permit which you will need to pay for before you go on the hikes.
#10 Take a sunset yacht cruise to Clifton
If you are in the mood to feel like the rich and famous take a sunset yacht cruise to the iconic Clifton area and sip cocktails while marvelling at the beautiful surroundings. There are loads of different companies that offer private and shared charters when the weather is good.
#11 Abseil off Table Mountain
If you have ticked climbing table mountain off your bucket list maybe you need to abseil off it next. This is a must do for anyone adventurous and being on the side of a sheer cliff on one of the new natural wonders of the world gives you some bragging rights.
#12 Watch an outdoor movie
In need of a bit of romance or just a fun night out? Watch an outdoor movie at the Grand Daddy hotel or at one of the Galileo cinemas that are open in the warmer months.
#13 Hike the shipwreck trail at Cape Point
The shipwreck trail is a great way to see Cape Point a bit differently. The hike takes about 2-3 hours and is easy enough for the whole family to hike. The views are breathtaking and it gives you the opportunity to escape the crowds.
#14 Spend a night in the overseers cottage on top of Table Mountain
If you want to stay somewhere really special for an evening then head up Table Mountain and stay at the overseers cottage. Booking is essential and its best done in groups as the cottage has a base fee and plenty of sleeping space. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and sleep on top of one of the new natural wonders of the world! Find more information on the Sanparks website.
#15 Learn to surf in Muizenberg
Muizenberg is an iconic spot with it’s colourful houses and laid back vibe. Its also the best place in Cape Town to learn how to surf with its warmer water and smaller rolling waves.
