Radisson Blu Waterfront is little gem in the Granger Bay area, hidden from the hustle and bustle of the Waterfront. While it might seem all business from the entrance side this is definitely not the case. Walk through the light reception area and let the pull of the bright blue Atlantic ocean lead you outside. Here you will find an infinity pool like no other a bar and a fantastic restaurant with some gorgeous views to boot.
We recently spent two nights at the Radisson Blu Waterfront and soon fell in love with it’s toned down luxury and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you are booking in for a romantic staycation, wanting a central spot to explore Cape Town from or you just want to enjoy a meal this is the place to go to.
Here are five reasons you need to head to the Radisson Blu Waterfront asap!
There is a lot to do nearby
Radisson Blu Waterfront has the advantage of feeling out of the way but still being in walking distance of a lot of experiences.
Here are some cool things to do that are within walking distance when staying at the the Radisson Blu Waterfront:
- Go kayaking with Atlantic Outlook
- Visit the Granger bay farmers market on weekends
- Go for a walk ( or a jog! ) on the promenade. I love that you don’t even need to cross a road to do this!
- Go shopping at the V&A Waterfront
- Take a scenic helicopter flight
- Go on the big wheel
- Enjoy a yacht cruise
If you don’t feel like walking the Radisson also has a shuttle that operates to and from the Waterfront till 11pm at night!
The Radisson blu Waterfront pool is gorgeous
The pool at the Radisson Blu Waterfront was definitely one of my favorite things about the hotel. This rim flow pool is so close to the ocean that you almost can’t differentiate the two! We had the best time drinking cocktails in the pool ( they serve from plastic glasses ) and watching the dolphins play. Yes you read that right, dolphins love jumping around the sheltered water in front of the hotel.
You will feel like you have been transported to another country with yachts gliding through the water while you soak up the sun from the pool deck. We even had our lunch there one day as it was too difficult to resist the lure of the pool.
The food is amazing
We have stayed in a few Radisson blu hotels around the world so I definitely knew the food was going to be good. I was however surprised by the large amount of vegan dishes on the menu at their Tobogan restaurant. This is the main restaurant at the hotel where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. I am not vegan but pescatarian but I do mostly prefer eating vegan dishes if they have.
Their restaurant is open to the public and a stunner of a spot to enjoy cocktails and dinner with a view. On our first night we had a seafood platter that I am still thinking about. With tender calamari, melt in your mouth fish and lovely bbq prawns among other things. On our second evening I knew I just had to try out their beyond burger and I am so glad I did. Served on a beetroot bun with garlic aioli it was one of the best I have eaten and at a great price. They even has a vegan creme brulee which was light and delicious. I will 100% return just to enjoy that burger again!
We had breakfast up at our room and it was also a treat with lots of fresh fruit, fluffy eggs and decadent pastries. I am definitely a breakfast person and it didn’t disappoint. Thankfully as a non guest you can also book their very popular breakfast buffet.
They also have cool events like their Saturday bottomless brunch that you can book here.
The hotel is great
All of these things might not matter if a hotel isn’t up to scratch. The Radisson Blu Waterfront passed all my tests with flying colours though. They ticked all the boxes when it comes to things I look for in a hotel like this.
- Light bright rooms with balcony options available.
- Adequate coffee stations in the rooms ( so important for early risers like us! )
- An iron and ironing board which might not sound like much but is something we always need when travelling!
- A 24 hour gym which I feel should be the norm at all hotels
- A large spa with an indoor pool. I absolutely love spa’s that have indoor pools and chill areas. It is a great option for rainy days!
- Knowledgable and friendly staff. This is something that could make or break a hotel in my opinion.
