5 Reasons To Visit Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel

Grand daddy boutique hotel in Long Street, Cape Town is so much more than a hotel. I found that out recently when we had a bit of a romantic staycation in the city. This hotel is over a 120 years old ( and so is their lift! ) and it is bursting with fun and creativity.

Here are 5 reasons why you need to visit this Cape Town landmark!

Sleep over in an Airstream trailer on their rooftop

If it wasn’t cool enough sleeping in a themed airstream trailer, at Grand Daddy you can do it on a rooftop in the middle of bustling Cape Town city centre. Their airstream “trailer park” has a South African road trip theme with takes you from the winelands, to a safari lodge and even the beach. We stayed in their largest trailer ( the winelands one ) which made a lot of sense because I cant deny I love a bit of wine 😛

Each trailer has aircon, a tv, a bar fridge, a queen size bed and a bathroom with a shower so don’t think you wont be staying in luxury up there. We loved sitting outside of our trailer having a drink at our own private table outside our airstream!

They also have rooms and suites available in the hotel if thats more your thing or if you want to switch it up for a few nights!

Eat at their restaurant Thirty Ate

We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant on the bottom floor of The Grand Daddy Hotel. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had a fab time sipping on some local wine while having our dinner and just soaking up the buzz of the city. If you are a guest at the hotel breakfast is included and you can order any one of their delicious hot or cold breakfast options as well as coffee or tea.

I will definitely be back to enjoy one of their gourmet sandwich options for lunch while chilling at their bar stool overlooking long street!

Enjoy cocktails at the sky bar

I am always a sucker for a good rooftop bar, and I loved the laid back feeling of their Grand Daddy sky bar. We ordered some snacks to share which I didn’t photograph because we were so hungry we almost inhaled them! I was a bit sceptical about their nacho combo but oh my it was so good! Nacho chips with hummus, guacamole and the most delicious sun-dried tomato dip. It was insane and now I want all my nachos like that!

Their cocktails were also great and really photogenic, I love that they serve them with paper straws which is better for the environment and cute pics! Try out their pina colada, you will not be sorry!

Watch a movie at the Pink Flamingo cinema

They don’t only have airstream trailers on their rooftop, the also have something really special and unique called the Pink Flamingo cinema. Every Monday they have a movie showing on the rooftop in between the trailers. You can book love seats or just sit in the general seating – or if you want to be extra and book the winelands trailer for movie night you can just sit outside it like we did! You get a welcome drink and some popcorn but you can also order more drinks and even picnic baskets!

We watched The Wedding singer and it was a hot evening with a very welcome light rain shower and lightening striking in the distance. Fairy lights and a glass of good red wine really set the mood and we had one of our best date nights in a long time!

Take in the Cape Town city views

Whether you are chilling at the restaurant downstairs, or exploring the rooftop their are plenty of different ways to see the heart of Cape Town. You can see all the way up and down the iconic long street with its vibey night life and interesting people.  I loved watching the sunset from the roof and seeing all the twinkling lights of the city come on down below.
