Last year we stayed over at Lanzerac Hotel and Spa in the dead of winter with snow capped mountains and copious amounts of red wine. This year we went back for a romantic Valentines day getaway with the February heat in full force and it was equally magical. It really is special driving into the estate with its lovely tree lined driveway and the warm Summer air filling you with joy.
If you stay over at Lanzerac you get a free wine tasting valued at R70 pp and it’s always the best way to start your stay! We also got a glass of MCC on arrival so we spent the first part of our day as anyone in the wine lands should. Drinking good wine and eating good food! We ordered two spinach and mushroom quiches from the Deli while our lovely tasting host explained the different wines to us.
Our room at Lanzerac Hotel and Spa
This time we stayed in a different room that was equally beautiful! It had a steam room area, a private pool that was much needed in the heat and a heavenly bathroom. I absolutely love how effort they put into their rooms. The main bedroom was dark and mysterious with beautiful pops of pink – if you are looking for romantic fairytale rooms that will make you feel like a princess.
We spent most of the afternoon trying to beat the 38 degree heat by dipping into pool. It makes such a difference to have your own pool but Lanzerac also has two guest pools ( one inside the spa and one outside ) if your room does not have a private one.
We also received a lovely Valentine’s Day turn down service with some nougat and a red rose. Mike obviously had to hand me the last red rose bachelor style 😛
Valentines day dinner at Lanzerac Hotel and Spa
The main event of our stay was of course the Valentines day dinner. The evening turned out absolutely perfect and as they sky turned a beautiful orange we made our way to the restaurant. There are actually a few different restaurants on the property but the Valentines day dinner was being held outside on the deck with a special four course meal.
The atmosphere was lovely with lots of lanterns and candles and a band playing some soft ballads in the corner. Couples were staring lovingly into each other’s eyes and clinking glasses mixed with the sound of laughter. A bottle of Lanzerac Merlot was ordered and we settled n for a very delicious meal. Judging by every table being booked Lanzerac seems to be a very popular Valentines day spot and not having experienced it I can definitely see why!
