Recently we flew Air Seychelles to go explore the islands for a few days. We got to experience a couple of different sides to the airline so I thought I would share them!
Air Seychelles Business Class
We flew Johannesburg to Mahe Seychelles business class and this is definitely a treat! I would suggest upgrading is you are celebrating something special or going on honeymoon. Airports give me such anxiety but having the piece of mind that you will have overhead space and you dont need to stand in line for long really made the whole experience of travelling so much nicer for me!
I can usually sleep everywhere but I do struggle on planes, mostly because my head keeps falling around. Also sitting super close to someone you might not know doesn’t make for the soundest sleep. On this flight however I had the best sleep and I couldn’t even finish watching my movie before my eyes starting closing. You also don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone when you easily let your seat automatically go back.
We had a later flight so we experienced their dinner service which was really great. You can choose your meals ( starter, main and dessert ) as well as the wine you would like with it before the flight even takes off. Then its just time to sit back and enjoy a glass of champagne.
Another perk of flying business class is that you can also access a lounge in Johannesburg airport ( they have lounges in different airports as well ) We were able to go into the Shongololo lounge which was really great. We had a few hours to spar between our flight from Cape Town landing and actually boarding our plane to Seychelles. The time went by really fast in the lounge though where we could finish some work. We also grabbed some sushi and sparkling wine from their huge selection of complimentary food and drinks.
We also took two Air Seychelles island hoppers from Mahe to Praslin and back again. There is a ferry that goes to the island but time wise it was more convenient to go by plane. Its a really short 20 minute flight with the most incredible views! You have to check in an hour before your flight and then its just a quick wait before strolling over the tarmac to your little plane!
I do mean little as well. You will have to be careful about luggage as there are limitations. Especially with hand luggage as there are no overhead bins and the seats are very small. They Air Seychelles staff are very nice though and they will definitely make a plan for you. Another couple opted to leave a few heavier things in a bag at the airport security to pick up on the way back again. I love it when airlines go the extra mile for passengers!
I really did enjoy the island hopper but if you get any kind of motion sickness I would suggest taking something for it before hand. It can get a bit bumpy and hot but its over so quickly so I wouldn’t stress about it too much!
