I have only been on the Bains Kloof pass twice and that is definitely not enough to take in all the gorgeous scenery and great hiking it has to offer. Recently we headed out for the day ( its about a 90min drive from Cape Town ) to go for a hike at the stunning Tweede Tol campsite.
The pass is very narrow with gorgeous views and some pretty spectacular Waterfalls that I never knew about! We packed out backpacks with picnic food and cameras ( forgetting our bikinis ) and set of for a day of hiking, or so we thought.
Its R50 per person to get into the Cape Nature reserve for the day which is a bargain if you think about what you are about to experience. We had in mind that we were going to be hiking quite far but starting at the bottom and hiking up to the topmost waterfall only takes about an hour if you don’t stop so its quite easy for kids or if you are carrying a picnic!
We obviously stopped at the first and busiest waterfall first and had so much fun jumping off rocks and swimming ( me in my underwear and black top lol ) in the crystal pool which was actually really nice and not cold at all.
After lunch we decided to go check out the rest of the waterfalls and obviously the last one was the absolute best without a single soul in sight! It looked like we were somewhere totally different with green ferns and a long narrow waterfall leading into a perfect rock filled pool. Dark clouds were looming overhead which made the experience even more magical and we really didn’t want to leave although we still had quite a drive back.
Next time I will definitely be staying in the small but really nice campsite so we can stay longer and explore more.
I absolutely love finding hidden gems close to home!
