Recently I headed off to Paarl with Michael and Insta Eats Cape Town to discover what the Spice Route had to offer. After a beer tasting at the CBC brewery we went next door for lunch at Barley & Biltong. You obviously don’t have to guess what they have a lot of here especially being next to a brewery!
having tasted my fair share of beer just before we got there I opted for a glass of delicious granache while the boys continued with some CBC lager and pilsner. There arent a whole lot of wine options, especially by the glass but then again it is a beer garden not a wine bar. We went on a Saturday and it was packed so I suggest making a booking especially if its a gorgeous day and you want to sit at one of the large outside tables overlooking Table Mountain in the distance.
We had to try out some biltong and decided to share a biltong platter that had assorted venison and beef biltong which was absolutely delicious. They only serve gourmet burgers with sides and we each tried a different one. I had the Drakensburger which has peri peri chicken and coriander and I had a side salad although the chips looked really good as well!
You can also buy biltong and droewors there which is something I am doing next time we stop by before eating because after all that delicious food I just wanted to go sit outside and soak up the sunshine.
This is a great place for friends to meet up, and you can even watch sports on the flat screens they have inside. It has a great vibe and good food and an awesome way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
Check out what else Spice Route has to offer.
