A while back we explore The Spice Route and we were lucky enough to enjoy a gorgeous Sunday Lunch with the guys from Insta Eats at the well known Bertus Basson restaurant. I had only been there once before for an event so I was really excited to see what their menu had to offer us.
Our table was outside and had a gorgeous view over the valley below and the atmosphere was great with the sounds of laughter and glasses clinking all around us. We ordered some white wine to celebrate the stunning weather and started poring over the incredibly delicious looking menu.
I always struggle eating a three course meal, especially at lunch time so I skipped the starters so I could have a dessert ( obviously! ) but it didnt really help when they brought out some warm bread for us to nibble on. When I say nibble I mean I probably ate half of the tables bread because lets face it, bread wine and some good olive oil on a Sunday afternoon is something to be enjoyed.
For mains I went with the fish and chips and I am so glad I did. The beer batter was obviously made from some CBC beer ( which they brew on the grounds ) and it was light crispy and delicious. The rustic chips and simple salad complemented the meal and it didn’t leave me feeling heavy. Maybe in Winter time I would go for something like Mike ordered, steak on the bone with a side of chips.
I really probably shouldn’t have ordered dessert because I was so full but when you get options like Peppermint fridge tart which is a childhood favorite of mine and apple pie with ice cream you just cant say no.
I might have been full and the dessert portions might have been quite large but I managed to finish every last bit ( myself and Mike went halfies on the two ) and I would probably go back just for the Peppermint fridge tart alone, it was that good!
All in all this is a great weekend spot to relax with friends and family and its a bonus that there are so many other things to do at the Spice Route as well.
