Fondue Igloo on Engstligenalp Switzerland

Fondue Igloo is a must do when visiting Switzerland. Its a country full of bucket list activities and this one should be really high up if you happen to visit in colder seasons.

Fondue Igloo

Imagine getting on a cable car that takes you up past the second highest waterfall in Switzerland and to the top of the snow covered Engstligenalp. The beautiful views and crisp air is absolutely intoxicating. Then you make your way through the snow to a large snow covered dome otherwise known as the Fondue Igloo.

Sounds like its straight out of a fairytale right? I definitely felt like a snow princess sitting inside the icy restaurant with fur covered seats and candles. We ordered some German beers, mine was a delicious sour apple one. When we were ready they brought our cheese and Oh man did it look amazing! Cheese coma here we come! It was served with traditional bread and was definitely enough for two people to share and enjoy. We were so full but I almost wanted to get another one just because its so good! It was such a fun experience and obviously crazy delicious.

The inside looks colder than it is so don’t let that put you off! Yummy cheese and some wine or beer will definitely warm you up from the inside out. Eating cheese fondue inside and igloo on top of the Alps was never one my bucket list because I simply did not know about it. Now that I do I tell everyone that they just have to experience it! Thank goodness the lovely manager Yvonne from The Cambrian hotel in Adelboden organised this for us! Its always great to get local advice on where to go when you experience a place for the first time!

You can find out the prices for the cable car here and the fondue here.

Ok no joke this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Switzerland is one of my favorite places on earth but I have yet to check fondue igloo off my bucket list! Had no idea this was even a thing – it looks out of a fairytale. Thanks so much for sharing 🙂 I’m going to pin it also!

What an amazing experience. I’ve seen “ice bars” in many tourist destinations, but nothing like this. I really want to visit Switzerland and I’ll have to add this to my list of attractions to visit.

This place looks unbelievable! I love how cozy it seems even though you’re literally inside of an igloo. Great accompanying video as well, Odesza is always a great song choice 😉

I am going to add this on my bucket list. This must a popular place to visit when you are in Switzerland. The idea of dipping pieces of bread in a melted cheese is already tempting. Then, you will have a chance to dine in a place surrounded by ice sculptures. It is going to be a hot and cold experience.
