Four Ingredients To A Healthier Me

Being a healthier version of me is something I strive towards everyday. I take a daily approach but I also do things to keep my mind and body healthy in the long term.

When I wake up in the morning and grab my bowl of Alpen Muesli I know that what I am putting into my body is good for me. The base ingredients are rolled oats, wheat flakes, raisins and nuts. All things that will give you energy for the day ahead. Just like those four ingredients make for a good breakfast things you put into the mix of your life creates what you are.

I thought I would share the things I add into my life to make it healthier with all of you. No one has the same recipe and there are lots of things you can add to your life!

My Four Healthier Me Ingredients:

Weather taking a two day camping road trip or a week long island getaway any kind of travelling is good for my soul! It reinvigorates me and keeps my mind healthy and my body happy! It fuels my creativity and gives me something to look forward to and remember when its done.

Switching Off:

I love social media and being online, its part of my job and I do it for fun as well. It is however important for me to switch off and recharge every once in a while. It could be by leaving my phone at home when going out or just putting it on silent and reading a book for a couple of hours. The urge to check for messages and likes will disappear quickly enough leaving you with a sense of peace for a while. It also makes me love it so much more when I get back to it again! Everyone needs a little bit of a time out every now and then.

Hiking is definitely a healthy thing to do but I also enjoy it so much. There is nothing better to me than being out in nature and also sometimes seeing what your body is capable of. The sense of accomplishment you get after scaling a mountain is a great feeling as is the jelly legs when you finally get home after a 7 hour hike.

Being Conscious Of What I Eat:

Reading food labels and knowing what goes into my body has become a very important part of my life. Whenever I can help it I try and switch out for healthier options. Just a small shift in the way you buy food will make a big difference in your overall wellbeing.

So I have told you my four healthier me ingredients and now its time for you to tell me yours!

Going for a run and getting lost in my thoughts! (Most people run with music, but I prefer running without it so I can take the time to think).
Keeping a jug of water on my desk so I can stay hydrated.
Experimenting in the kitchen to find healthier alternatives for sweet treats.
Putting my phone away once I get in bed so I can sleep more and browse less.

Reading – keeps my mind supple. Books range from love stories, autobiographies, self-management, leadership etc – we are never too old to learn.

Exercising – my body is my vehicle. Trying different things to keep me on my toes from running, yoga, hiking to ballet.

Alone time – reconnecting keeps me sane. One needs to get off the hamster wheel and take care of your soul and heart.

When the mind, body and soul is at peace, you are a better person!

My four healthier me ingredients consist out of a delicious breakfast that includes a colourful muesli fruit bowl every morning, with an egg Benedict so every now and then – not forgetting some Rooibos tea! (I’m a tea lover!)
Nature – hikes in Greyton is amazing, with all the natural scenery surrounding me and the quietness of the trail walks allows me to let my busy mind go, just find peace and exercise of course.
Reading – I personally feel that reading is a must do in this busy life. There is nothing more therapeutic than a good book.
And exploring/travelling is an ingredient not just for a healthier me but to find myself in the things I love.

    Hi 🙂

My four ingredients to a healthier me are:

    1) Travel photography – Near or Far , City or Village , i LOVE Traveling .and incorporating my amateur photography with my travels is my ultimate happiness. I get to meet people from all walks of life and I get to experience different cultures . It humbles me . I dare to do the crazy and fun things to be captured. A picture tells 1000 stories even after the moment has passed.

    2) Adrenaline Adventures – A short hike (lions head), a long hike (table mountain) , anything that gets my adrenaline pumping (ziplining, cape cobra roller coaster, sky dives) . Where the view from the top ,or the waterfalls you get to play in take take my breathe away. Simply being outdoors in nature is another state of euphoria for me . :))

    3) Watching the sunset /sunrise with people who inspire me the most and make me forget I have a phone, my best friends – *sigh* There’s just something about sunsets and sunrises that make you feel that it’s the beginning of a new day and along with it come a fresh set of things to do and as the sun sets ,that day has ended .. And it takes away some of the weight on your shoulders. You sense that even you are moving forward. And discussing my dreams with my best friends while watching the sunset are epic. Sunsets on the West coast ocean have become my favourite destress ever since I came to Cape town 1 year ago.

    4) Dancing ! Drop that beat and my entire body will want to start moving . :)) I am shy though so behind my room doors , I dance. Almost everyday after work you will find me in my room with the music on. I get my cardio session in and my spirits lifted . 🙂
