Hong Kong is a vibrant, exciting place and Shangri-La Island an oasis of luxury set against the backdrop of a lush mountain peak. We recently had the pleasure to experience what Hong Kong has to offer while staying at this 5 star hotel. The Shangri-La island hotel is situated in Central flanked by glamorous shops and boasting a picturesque harbour view. It is the perfect base for business or exploration while staying in Hong Kong.
Shangri-La Island Hong Kong
Boasting 56 floors, Shangri-La Hong Kong is an impressive sight whether you are inside or outside. With gorgeous wrap around views of Victoria peak and the harbour you will be spoilt whichever room you stay in. First impressions last and mine walking into the Shangri-La Hong Kong was definitely a good one. A fast entrance area welcomed us with glittering chandeliers and gleaming floors. Old school luxury at its finest! I almost felt like I had walked into a movie set.
The Horizon Club Rooms at Shangri-La Island
We were lucky enough to stay in one of the gorgeous Horizon Club Harbour view rooms and I literally gasped when I saw the view out of our very large window. Floors 52-55 are for the Horizon club rooms so you are guaranteed to get a view to boast about.
We were welcomed with delicious tea and chocolates which was a great way to start our stay and take a minute to enjoy our bedroom view before heading off to go explore again. The small touches like that really make you feel at home in a large hotel and they are always appreciated.
Horizon Club benefits
Staying in a Horizon Club room is a lot more than a stunning view though. There are so many great benefits that we really enjoyed during our stay. First off you get to check in on the 56th floor at the Horizon Club lounge which is such a relaxing experience especially if you have been travelling.
The Horizon club lounge is a private lounge for members only. Here you can enjoy breakfast and afternoon refreshments during the day and canapés and free flow champagne in the evenings. On our last night we decided to stay in and enjoy the benefits. We had dumplings and decadent desserts and some refreshing Veuve Clicquot champagne while chatting about our Hong Kong experience.
Another benefit that I immensely enjoyed was the portable wifi that you could take with you during the day. Michael had a Hong Kong sim card but I did not so having the wifi in my bag ( with 8gb data ) to keep me connected was a life saver!
The Shangri-La Island has quite a few dining and bar options but if you are really in the mood to spoil yourself you should check out Restaurant Petrus. High above the bustling city you will experience fine dining and luxury in a stunning setting. With numerous awards and the option to dine for lunch or dinner it can’t be missed.
Health Club and Spa
We are always looking for a hotel with a great gym and spa and I am happy to announce that the Shangri-La island has both. We indulged in a drool worthy couples massage ( I nodded off a few times so drool was definitely involved ) that left us both feeling super relaxed especially after the amount of walking we had been doing. You could even choose your own massage oil scent which I loved.
Their gym is quite big for a hotel one and the equipment state of the art but if you don’t feel like working out inside you can always opt for some laps in their pool. Swimming with the view of skyscrapers towering up beside you was definitely a new and pretty awesome experience! We even had a little hot tub session because why not!
Arrive and leave in style
The hotel also offers airport transfers in style! We had an early flight and the last thing we felt like doing was walking down to the station with all our luggage! Luckily Shangri-la had our backs with a sleek car and friendly driver to take us to the airport. The 40min trip was a breeze and when we reached the airport they had someone waiting for us ready to help us with our bags and take us to the check in counter!
A few more things I really loved about staying at the Shangri-La Island Hong Kong
- The extremely helpful friendly staff
- It was literally a two minute walk from the Pacific Mall which is next level amazing.
- It was really close by bus stops and stations.
- You could also take a 15 minute walk to the harbour which is what we did when we took the star ferry to the Kowloon side.
- The Horizon Club Lounge felt like a really fancy sky bar especially when drinking champagne!
- The breakfast spread was huge with Asian and Western dishes galore. I definitely ate way too much before our flight.
- They have a pillow menu!
- The staff all know your name which makes you feel special in such a big hotel.
