Staying at Vrede & Lust Franschhoek

Vrede & Lust translates as peace and delight and that is exactly what I experienced when I stayed over at this breathtaking wine estate recently.

Michael and I were invited for the Crown dinner of their Lust Bistro and Bakery  as well as to come see the recent renovations.

Accommodation at Vrede & Lust

There are three different accommodation types at Vrede & Lust, the Manor house, Jonkmanshuis cottages and the Luxury vineyard suites which we were lucky enough to stay in. It’s always such a pleasure to be able to walk out your door and just see uninterrupted views of  mountains and vineyards! Just behind the Vineyard suites you will find reception as well as a pool house and bar with some lovely outside tables and deck chairs. A cocktail at the pool was a must do for a perfectly sunny Friday afternoon in the winelands and my delicious Mojito went down very well.

Lust Bistro and Bakery

Our dinner was not served at the restaurant ( although we did enjoy some bubbly and oysters there! ) but rather in the beautiful Vineyard terrace with its glass walls and endless views over the Mountains. The dinner consisted of three delicious courses and an endless supply of Vrede & Lust wine. I was particularly impressed with the vegetarian option of handmade potato gnocchi, wild mushrooms, fresh peas & asparagus crème. I overdid it with my dessert because it was a buffet and then you obviously have to have one of everything right?

The next morning we were once again spoiled with a breakfast in the Bistro itself where the breakfast options were plenty and all sounded amazing! We both had the Wild mushrooms on toast ( absolute mushroom addict over here ) and while I had mine without egg, Mike added some streaky bacon to his. I love the option to add or remove elements at breakfast especially for me as a vegetarian! I saw someone else order and rave about the pineapple and ginger juice and we thought after all the wine the previous night it might be a good idea to get something healthy. They didn’t disappoint, served in tall glasses with sparkling water that made it so refreshing!

I would definitely recommend popping in for a wine tasting and lunch next time you are in the area or even sleeping over if you feel like a bit of a winelands spoil!
