Salt of Palmar is a new kid on the block in Mauritius and it’s already getting people talking with it’s sustainability. We had the pleasure of staying there for a few nights and it really exceeded all my resort expectations! It’s a resort filled to the brim with true Mauritian culture and hospitality while maintaining an eco friendly approach. As soon as you step into Salt with it’s colourful designs and bright open spaces you will feel reenergised and truly welcome!
The rooms at Salt of Palmar
With only 59 rooms Salt of Palmar definitely has a boutique resort feel to it. They have 5 different room categories and we stayed in a lovely bang on beach one with a stunning view of the turquoise water down below!
Our room had all the luxuries you would need a handmade king size Carpe Diem bed, that I immediately dozed off in every night. It also had 100% organic cotton bedding that was so delicious to sleep under. A beautiful Roberts radio play chilled music for us to relax to and the bathroom features a rain shower and all-natural, locally produced toiletries.
The bars at Salt of Palmar
Something I was slightly obsessed with was the three bars at Salt of Palmar. There are three bars named after the land, the ocean and the mountains. Each one has unique cocktails which they use products from those specific areas in Mauritius.
The mountain bar is a rooftop one and has an oh so glorious view over Palmar beach. It is definitely the place to be for pre dinner cocktails! I must also add that the cocktails are extremely photogenic so you probably will find yourself ordering them all while you stay at Salt!
The Spa experience
Salt Equilibrium the spa at Salt of Palmar is really something special and unique! When you book a treatment you will first get a foot scrub with essential oils and salt that you have chosen for specific reasons. Then after your treatment you get to spend some time relaxing in their healing salt room which is a first on the island!
If you feel like pampering yourself it is really the place to do it! I felt so relaxed after my massage I almost fell asleep on the beach!
The food at Salt of Palmar
I am still dreaming of the food we ate at Salt of Palmar and that is definitely not an exaggeration! No buffets in sight, only local, fresh delicious food made to order. I wish I had spent more days at Salt just so that I could have tried out every single item on the menu. We did do a pretty good job though and breakfast, lunch and dinner were feasts of note.
Think smoothie bowls for breakfast filled to the brim with goodness, raw tacos for lunch and mouth watering local curries for dinner. These are just a few of the dishes that you will try at salt. They even have a whole menu section devoted to raw vegan food! I must admit it didn’t tickle my fancy at first but as soon as I tried the raw vegan tacos I was 100% hooked! The chefs even showed us how to make some vegan raw pad thai and it was life changing!
I really have never experienced a hotel menu this diverse but at the same time local, fresh and sustainable before.
Different activities available
I feel I would need about 5 blog posts just to explain to all of you the wide range of activities at Salt of Palmar. This is not your typical lie on the beach all day resort. It could be if you wanted to but why miss out on all that Salt and Mauritius has to offer!
If you crave a bit of fitness and health on vacation they have plenty of classes at the resort like water aerobics, floating yoga and volleyball or if you want to venture out you can book a hiking trip!
