I have a bit of a thing for American style BBQ smoked meat that comes from watching way too many episodes of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives! Luckily I don’t have to torture myself by drooling over the tv anymore. Last night I experienced Texan style BBQ right here in Cape Town at The Hoghouse brewing co and let me tell you, I will be back! Tucked away in an industrial park in Ndebeni you would think that no one would know about this little gem. To my surprise the place was packed with people looking for good beer and good food even on a Thursday evening.
I dont know a lot about the smoking process or what goes into making beer but I do know good food and I was definitely living my best life eating theirs. With interesting starters like pig tails ( crunchy, sweet sticky and addictive! ) bread with truffle cream cheese, and deep fried balls of bliss as I like to call them, there are plenty of options to choose from.
I loved the whole homestyle way of eating and I think its a great idea to go with a group and make a night of it. Sticky fingers, lots of laughter and very full bellies makes for a great night out in my opinion! Everyone grabs a tray and dishes up for themselves from whatever delicious mains they order. The ribs were delicious without basting so the flavour really comes out, pork belly with pineapple kimchi made for a mouthwatering combo and my favorite baked cauliflower that tasted like heaven!
For dessert you actually can’t leave without having Pasteis De Nata, you might be full but its worth it, actually buy all of them and take them home if you must!
They also have a restaurant at Spier if you feel like going for a BBQ lunch as the Ndebeni one only serves dinner. Whichever one you choose though, you definitely wont be disappointed!
